Isaac Brock was born on October 6, 1769, in Guernsey, Channel Islands. He was the son of a prominent merchant family. Brock received a classical education at Elizabeth College in Guernsey. He then studied law at the University of Cambridge, but he left school without graduating to join the British Army in 1791.
Brock served with distinction in the British Army during the French Revolutionary Wars. He fought in the West Indies, the Netherlands, and Egypt. In 1802, he was appointed commander of the 49th Regiment of Foot.

In October 1812, Brock led his troops to victory at the Battle of Queenston Heights. However, he was killed in action during the battle. Brock's death was a major blow to the British war effort.
